Not a true peppercorn, this berry from the Chinese prickly ash is very fragrant, lemony and pungent, and creates a numbing sensation on the tongue. used in spicy dishes and a key ingredient in Chinese five-spice powder, the husks can also be dry-roasted and ground to make seasoned salt or rubs.
