March Healthy Bytes: How to Meal Prep
March 12, 2018
Soccer practice. Tee-ball tournaments. Band recitals and dance shows. It's no wonder that your calendar fills up so fast! That's why we love to meal plan and prep. Here are our top tips:
-
Plan, plan, plan: First, look at your schedule and figure out what meals everyone will be home to enjoy. Then, select a few large meals that your family will love with overlapping ingredients. Bonus points for meals and snacks that freeze well!
-
Make sure it has a home: It happens to everyone. You pour hours into cooking only to discover you are missing most of your lids (we swear they live with our lost socks somewhere!). Make sure your dish has a place to live before you break out the pots and pans.
-
Make a list: Check it twice and make sure you have every ingredient you’ll need. Don’t forget to check your cabinets before you go!
-
Go digital: We love the Yummly App – it allows you to collect your favorite recipes and makes a shopping list with one click.
-
Family field trip: Kids are more likely to eat the food if they are involved in the planning, shopping, and cooking process.
-
Prep as much as you can: Wash, chop, and store any vegetables and herbs you’ll need for the week. Make your spice mixtures and sauces. Make/prep as much of the recipes as you can to save valuable time during the week!
